ERSO Return & Reintegration Assistance

ERSO stands for the cooperation of return counselling and reintegration support organisations in several EU countries and countries of origin (CoO).
The ERSO Network aims to offer returnees:

  • impartial counselling before departure;
  • information about reintegration possibilities in the CoO before return;
  • tailor made reintegration assistance and monitoring after return through our partners in the CoO.

10 European NGOs launched the first phase of ERSO (European Reintegration Support Organisations) in early 2007. The second phase of ERSO started in April 2008 with 11 European NGOs and aims to improve the assistance for migrants - primarily rejected asylum seekers - during their voluntary return and reintegration process into their country of origin.

In 2011 the ERSO West programme started, the third joint initiative undertaken by the ERSO network, with 7 European and 6 African organizations. ERSO West aims to promote development through sustainable retun of (rejected) asylum seekers and undocumented migrants from Europe, and also works towards the establishment of civil societies in Sierra Leone, Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon, and Togo. It strives to enhance the social and professional reintegration of West African migrants upon their return to their home countries. The programme aims to strengthen cooperation betweeen CSOs (Civil Society Organizations) in West African countries of origin and their European counterparts.
